About this Course

Are you looking to start your own business? Do you have a new business start-up idea? Over half a million businesses are started every year; however, 30% of these fail within the first two years. Having a better understanding of the initial processes and requirements of a business start-up can increase the chances of your business succeeding. If you’re looking to start your own business, or already have a business but want to develop and progress your business plan, this qualification will support you with the skills and knowledge you need.

Key Units

This qualification is delivered through 4 units to help build your understanding and confidence towards making your business idea a reality.

Unit 1: Initial steps for a business start-up

The aim of this unit is to help learners understand the initial steps of a business start-up. Learners will understand how to develop business start-up ideas, understand business ownership and work out what resources are required to develop a business start-up.


Unit 2: Marketing for a business start-up

The aim of this unit is to help learners understand the market their business start-up idea will be positioned in and how to use market research to support the business start-up. Learners will understand how to develop a successful marketing strategy.


Unit 3: Legal and financial considerations for a business start-up

The aim of this unit is to give learners an understanding of the legal and financial factors that will affect the business start-up.


Unit 4: Developing a business plan

The aim of this unit is to give learners an understanding of business planning and how to apply their theoretical knowledge to develop a final business plan.

Entry Requirements

This course is open to anyone with an idea for a start-up business.


This is a part-time course for adults. Learners must be aged 19+.

All applicants need to complete an English and maths initial assessment following the pre-enrolment, unless you can provide evidence of sufficient level of English and maths required for the course.

Assessment

This qualification will be assessed fully online – you access all the learning materials and complete and submit your assessments online.

You will be supported by a personal tutor who you can contact throughout your studies. You will work through a series of tasks and activities to assist in gaining the qualification. There will be written assessments related to the content.

Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to further qualifications in areas where business skills are of importance.

This qualification will also teach you about marketing your business and the important legal and financial requirements you have to follow.

This is a distance learning qualification and is completed and assessed online. You can study this course from home, work, or any other location you wish. This qualification can only be studied via the below methods. Distance learning qualification can be started at any time.

You might be eligible for fully funded courses depending on your circumstances.
This will be assessed during your IAG (Information Advice and Guidance) interview in the enrolment process. If you are unemployed or employed part-time or earning under £23,400 per year, and you receive means tested benefits, you are likely to be eligible.

Extra Costs

A fee of £150 is payable if you enrol on this qualification and do not complete it.
