About this Course

This qualification covers modern design methodologies, and uses mechanical engineering expertise and understanding to bring concepts to life. You will gain knowledge of the engineering field while you study subjects like client and customer needs, design principles, and design communication.

Key Units

This T Level consists of a technical qualification in design and development for engineering and manufacturing, an employer set project designed to develop core knowledge and skills, and an occupational specialism in Mechanical Engineering.

Engineering core units will include:

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs (9-4) including Science, and English and Maths at grade 5 or above. A keen interest in the topic is also beneficial.

Other considerations: a Level 2 vocational qualification or equivalent in a related subject, with merit.

Entry is subject to a successful interview.

Assessment

You will be assessed through written and practical examinations, employer set projects, group work and presentations. You will be set targets to work towards and achieve in your mandatory placement to help you develop the skills you need for your second-year practical assessment.

Where does this Lead

The completion of this qualification gives the learner the opportunity to progress on to university level study or higher level Apprenticeships e.g. HNC in Engineering, MSc in Engineering.

This two-year qualification has been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares learners for work. Students will study in a variety of ways, including classroom learning and on-the-job experience during a mandatory industry placement of at least 45 days.

Extra Costs

PPE (boots and overalls) are required for access to the workshop.

There may be optional trips and visits offered throughout the course at extra cost.
