About this Course

This vocational course will extend your skills as a Beauty Therapist by introducing you to a larger range of specialist beauty treatments and by giving you the opportunity to develop your skills in running a beauty business.

Entry Requirements

Level 2 Certificate or Diploma in Beauty Therapy.

Assessment

The course is mostly assessed by coursework therefore students need to have good time management skills and be able to work to targets and deadlines.


Practical assessments will be carried out in the salon on members of the public in a realistic salon setting. Underpinning knowledge will be assessed by exams throughout the academic year.

Where does this Lead

It is an advantage that for a career in the Beauty Therapy industry, you progress on to the Level 4 Beauty Therapy course.

Future Opportunities

There is a huge potential for employment following successful completion of this qualification. This could include salons within hotels, on board cruise liners, spas both in the UK and abroad, technical reps or running your own business.

Beauty therapists work in close contact with clients from different age groups and backgrounds. Good social and interpersonal skills, discretion and respect for others are important characteristics. You will also need to have physical stamina as you are often on your feet all day.

A voluntary/paid work placement within the beauty industry is essential for the success of this course.

Extra Costs

You will be asked to purchase a uniform which must be worn at all times when in the salon. In addition to this you must wear full black shoes, have your hair securely tied up in a bun, short clean nails and no nail varnish, gel polish or nail extensions, one pair of stud earrings and a wedding band only.

You will also need to have a professional beauty kit that must be brought to every practical session.  Additional training events will be offered throughout the year at a cost.

Those in financial hardship can apply for help with course related expenses from the Learner Support Fund.
