The Certificate in Understanding the Care and Management of Diabetes is ideal for both individuals interested in developing their understanding of diabetes, as well as those working in the health or social care sector who are looking to gain a recognised qualification in a specialist area.

Key Units

This certificate provides an understanding of diabetes including the treatment and management of diabetes. It explores the different types of diabetes, how these can occur, and develops knowledge of how diabetes is diagnosed and the requirements of initial care.

This diabetes training also develops an awareness of how Type 2 diabetes can be delayed with lifestyle changes and with ongoing care and treatment to control blood sugar levels. The treatment and management of diabetes is crucial to ensure that quality of life can be maximised for those with this condition.

Unit 1: Understand Diabetes
Students will explore the varying functions of glucose and insulin in the blood, the different forms and causes of diabetes, as well as the risk factors associated with each type.

Unit 2: Prevention and Early Intervention of Type 2 Diabetes
Students will examine the prevention and early intervention of Type 2 diabetes, paying attention to how the condition can be delayed, or even prevented, through healthy lifestyle changes.

Unit 3: Understand the Initial Care of Diabetes
Students will investigate how diabetes can be managed and monitored. Explore the mental and physical impact that diabetes diagnosis can have on an individual.

Unit 4: Understand Treatment and Management of Diabetes
Students will develop an understanding of the ongoing care and treatment recommended to control blood glucose levels and identify how best to prevent and detect complications in people with diabetes.

Entry Requirements

There are no specific qualifications required to enrol on this certificate. Acceptance onto the certificate is based on a phone or online interview with the Tutor.

Learners must be aged 19 years or over.

Assessment

You will complete an online workbook, supported by the Tutor as required.

These level 2 courses are free if you are a resident of South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (comprising of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield), as these qualifications can be fully-funded at no cost to you!
