About this Course

This course is designed to give you the knowledge, understanding and practical skills needed for supervised employment in early year settings. It is ideal for learners who would like to work with children and their families, in a variety of different early years settings - for example day care, nursery, out of school care and schools.

Entry Requirements

3 GCSEs grades A*- D / grade 3 or above (or acceptable alternatives), to include:

  • Maths at grade D / 3
  • English Language grade C / 4 (it is essential that learners have this grade before beginning this course, as there will not be an opportunity to study for this alongside the course)
Students will also need to obtain an up to date DBS check before starting the course.

Assessment

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. This could include:

  • Direct observation within the workplace
  • A portfolio of evidence
  • Written assignments/tasks

Some learning outcomes within this qualification will require assessment in a real work environment. 

Where does this Lead

This qualification allows progression to the Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification, and additional Level 3 qualifications relating to childcare.  

Future Opportunities

Learners may decide to enter employment within the early years sector in job roles such as assistants in pre -school, children's centres, day nurseries or nursery schools.

Extra Costs

Students are required to obtain a current DBS check, which is currently priced at £52.
