About this Course

This flexible course validated by Sheffield Hallam University is a work based learning award which combines health and social care education with professional practice in either existing employment or work placements to develop your skills and competencies for a wide range of roles across the health, social or community care sectors.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 120 UCAS points for 2016/17 entry (48 UCAS points for 2017/18) - including General Studies, Access to HE Diploma from a QAA recognised Access to HE course plus GCSE English Language or English Literature and Maths at Grade C or above or equivalents (Level 2 Adult Numeracy/Literacy, Level 2 Key Skills/Application of Number).

Applicants must be able to demonstrate potential to be caring and compassionate and the ability to develop meaningful relationships with service users and carers.

On successful completion of the foundation degree you will be able to apply for a number of professional courses or a top-up degree, including:

Future Opportunities

In addition to the above awards, a bespoke top-up degree is also being developed which will provide a route to achieving a full degree within one year after completion of the foundation degree.

Composition of the course:
Students will spend approximately 50% of the course in College (2 days) and will be expected to spend almost an equal amount of time split between work placement and self-study.  Feedback will account for approximately 5% of the course.



Extra Costs

Please note that in addition to course fees students are required to undertake a criminal records check (Disclosure and Barring Services check), the current cost of which is £51.80. Students will also be encouraged to become involved with the optional educational visits which are relevant to this programme, which will incur an additional cost.
