About this Course

For anyone hoping to gain employment within the floristry industry, the Level 2 Apprenticeship in Floristy is an industry recognised qualification that guides you through the essential elements required for a junior florist and gives you all the practical and technical knowledge to succeed in the world of floristry. In addition to the Health & Safety requirements, apprentices will learn how to design and produce tied designs, floral arrangements and funeral designs together with developing a knowledge and understanding of plants, planted designs and how to produce shop displays. All apprentices will also undertake a Basic First Aid Certificate, together with a City & Guilds Customer Service Certificate.

Key Units

On this unit based course you will learn how to:

  • Identify, check and monitor the quality of incoming cut materials
  • Plan, prepare and construct funeral designs
  • Plan, prepare and construct floral arrangements
  • Plan, prepare and construct tied floristry designs
  • Monitor and maintain health and safety
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Display stock to promote sales to customers in a retail environment
Students will also be able to undertake one additional, optional unit of their choice. 

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at A*- D grades (or acceptable alternatives) including English Language with Maths no lower than an E.


You will also need to gain a suitable employer.

Assessment

There are no formal examinations as part of this apprenticeship; a portfolio of evidence will be compiled whilst at work and during your time spent in college.  

Where does this Lead

Successful students continuing in employment can progress on to Level 3 Apprenticeship in Floristry.

Will the course suit me?
This course is suitable for those who wish to gain a floristry qualification while in employment and develop their careers within the industry. You will need to be practically minded and be prepared to do some study in your own time.

At The Sheffield College's Hillsborough Campus you will learn from staff with a range of floristry qualifications and floral industry backgrounds. There are excellent practical facilities available for both Floristry and Horticultural courses.

Qualification Title
The qualification will form part of the Apprenticeship framework for Floristry and you will gain a City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Work-Based Floristry.

Additional Qualifications
In addition to your main floristry qualification you will also study

  • Functional Skills in English and Maths if necessary (see above)
  • Certificate in Customer Service – Level 2
