About this Course

This is a practical and work-related business course. You will learn all about the exciting world of business and have the opportunity to apply your learning in a practical and realistic way. Throughout your course you will develop a wide range of skills, working practices and thought processes, including IT skills, presentation skills, independent learning skills, team work and leadership skills.

Key Units

You will develop your knowledge of and gain a broad business experience in: 

  • The world of business and everything that influences what businesses do 
  • How businesses are organised and their aims and objectives
  • How businesses manage and organise their finances and their staff
  • Business enterprise; understanding the skills needed to set up and run a business, developing your own business plan and enterprise activities 
  • Developing knowledge of the techniques retail outlets use to merchandise and sell their products
  • Selling skills
  • Creating financial documents including balance sheets

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs grades A* - D / grade 3 or above (or acceptable alternatives) - these must include English Language and/or Maths at grade 4. 

Assessment

This qualification is continually assessed through coursework and two units are assessed by exam. 

Coursework will be based around practical business exercises and you will be encouraged to utilise your own experiences of business you may have developed through part-time work or work placements.

Where does this Lead

The next step could be to on to our Business Level 3 (BTEC) course or an appropriate alternative.


The course also provides a good preparation for employment or an apprenticeship.

You are expected to contribute towards the cost of trips and visits. You may be entitled to help with the cost of trips and visits and anything else you need to buy for your course from the College’s Learner Support Fund.
