Access to HE Diploma in Health Science Professions

This course is designed to give those students without the traditional Level 3 qualifications the skills and experience required to study nursing and other healthcare related degrees (such as Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy) at university. This is a fast-track programme, delivered over 11 months, which aims to equip learners with the necessary knowledge, skills and confidence to progress in their chosen career pathways in areas such as Nursing, Midwifery, Operating Department Practitioner, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy.


About the Course

The aim of the HE Diploma (Health Science Professions) programme is to equip mature students with the necessary knowledge, skills and academic ability to successfully progress into Higher Education. 

The course also aims to provide learners with the necessary knowledge, skills and confidence to progress in their chosen career pathways. These could include nursing, midwifery, operating department practitioner, physiotherapy or occupational therapist.

This Level 3 (A Level equivalent) course is an intensive, fast-track programme studied over 11 months. During this time you will study between 60 - 72 credits in a variety of areas, including study skills, research skills, Health Psychology, Principles of Care, Biological Sciences and Mental Health, amongst others.

The course is delivered on a part-time basis, through attendance at specified weekly study sessions (typically on a Thursday afternoon, 12pm - 4pm). This is supplemented by 8 full study days at intervals during the programme.
