About this Course

This programme is ideal for those who want to become MOT Testers. The course covers the essential knowledge and skills needed for undertaking the practical MOT assessment, as well as managing your own professional development as an MOT Tester.

Key Units

Units may include:
  • safe working practices in the vehicle test centre
  • working relationships with the vehicle test centre
  • manage own professional development as an MOT tester
  • carry out pre-test checks for statutory periodic road-worthiness test
  • carry out a statutory periodic road-worthiness test

Entry Requirements

To be eligible to undertake this MOT Tester training, you must:

  • Have a current and full UK driving licence for the classes of vehicle you wish to test
  • Be a skilled mechanic, with at least 4 years full-time employment in the service and repair of the vehicle types to be tested
  • Have no unspent convictions for criminal offences connected with the MOT testing scheme or the motor trade, or involving acts of violence or intimidation
  • Be of good repute

Assessment

This course will use a range of assessment methods including one online exam covering the mandatory units and a practical assessment.

Where does this Lead

Achievement of an MOT Tester qualification allows you to apply to undertake the DVSA final observed assessment in order to achieve their Certificate of Competence (CoC), therefore enabling you to become a nominated tester (NT).
