About this Course

The UAL Level 2 Award/Diploma is a one year course that has been designed to look to the future of the creative industries. It will enable you to build your creative and technical skills, giving you an overall knowledge preparing you for potential progression onto level 3 Photography, Graphics or Journalism courses.

Key Units

This is a one year full-time course which offers an exciting blend of photography, graphic design, journalism and interactive technology. You will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to shoot professional photography for a variety of uses, along with journalistic skills from news gathering and writing to designing magazine covers.


The qualification is made up of eight units, which students must successfully complete. All units are written and delivered in a sequence which enables the learners to build a skill set as they work through the projects. The Final Major Project allows learners to use the skills they have acquired throughout the year to deliver their own take on a theme allowing them to become more autonomous in their creative thinking.


The Final Major Project takes place at the end of the course when students are at their best. This large project allows students to demonstrate all the learning that has taken place through completion of the other previous projects.

Entry Requirements

  • 4 x GCSEs grades 3-9

GCSE Requirement
Alongside the Level 2 programme you will also be required to study GCSE Maths and/or GCSE English if you do not already hold a minimum of GCSE grade 4 in both. 

You will need to achieve GCSE grade 4 in both English and Maths to progress to Level 3.

Assessment

Course work projects are graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.


The grade you achieve overall at FMP determines the progression routes available.

You must achieve Merit at Level 2 to progress to Level 3.

Extra Costs

A facilities fee of £40 per academic year is payable at enrolment or induction week.  

Exhibition printing fees of approximately £100 per academic year.

Students in financial hardship may be entitled to help from the college’s Student Support Fund to assist with the costs of trips and anything else you need to buy for your course.
