About this Course

The Level 2 Ladies Hairdressing qualification is the first stage of our professional hairdressing programme. This qualification is designed for people who wish to develop their skills in this sector. you will focus on the basic key elements of hairdressing, including technical skills in cutting and colouring as well as professional skills in customer service and health and safety. The Sheffield College is an accredited Wella Centre of Excellence. By studying with us you will receive quality training and an essential knowledge of the Wella portfolio of products.

Key Units

The Level 2 Ladies Hairdressing qualification is the first stage of our professional hairdressing programme. This qualification has been created for adult learners over 19 years of age and runs from September to June and is designed for people who wish to develop their skills in this sector.

You will cover essential areas of hairdressing, including technical skills (such as cutting and colouring), customer service skills to equip you for working in a salon, and essential knowledge regarding health and safety for the hair and beauty industry.

It is strongly recommended that you obtain a placement (either paid or unpaid) with a local salon alongside the course, however this is not a mandatory requirement.

You will study the following core and specialist units:
  • Client Consultation
  • Shampooing and Conditioning Hair
  • Plaiting and Twisting Techniques
  • The Art of Dressing Hair
  • Cutting Women's Hair
  • Health and Safety
  • Working in the Hair Industry
  • Creating an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have a GCSE grade D/3 or above in English Language OR Level 1 equivalent in Literacy.


ESOL learners should have achieved Level 1 in all 4 elements – speaking, listening, reading and writing. You will be asked to produce the evidence of the appropriate qualification.

The ideal candidate will be a good communicator and listener with excellent social skills, demonstrate a degree of artistic skills and flair, be highly dexterous, friendly and have physical stamina.

You will be expected to attend all sessions in full and participate in some self directed learning on a weekly basis.

Good computer skills are an essential requirement to be able to access course materials and communicate with staff.

Assessment

This will comprise of:


  • Practical Assessments
  • Exams
  • Assignments
Internal online exams will be taken periodically throughout the course for the mandatory units.

Practical skills will be assessed after training and practice, competence of practical skills will be demonstrated by graded summative assessments. You will be required to work on real clients.

Where does this Lead

Successful students may choose to progress onto a VRQ Diploma to focus on colouring and advanced cutting skills.

Extra Costs

You will need to purchase a professional uniform and kit (order forms will be supplied on your first day in college).

The uniform must be worn at all times when in salon and in addition to this you must wear full black shoes.
