Nestled within our City Campus overlooking the Sheffield skyline, The Sheffield College has a little culinary secret we would like to share with you – The Silver Plate Restaurant.
The Silver Plate is now closed for the summer break and our services will resume with a brand-new intake of students from Tuesday 5th October 2021.

Run by our fantastic Catering and Hospitality students under the supervision of our expert staff (two of whom are Master Chefs of Great Britain), the department holds a much coveted Hospitality Guild gold accreditation, with Patisserie and Food & Beverage Service also being recognised as Centres for Excellence. In addition, The Silver Plate Restaurant has been awarded the prestigious AA College Rosette Highly Commended award – one of only 20 colleges nationally to hold such an accolade. Most recently, the restaurant has received the AA Covid Confident accreditation for our Covid safety measures and procedures.
Serving exquisite, varied, and locally sourced food throughout the week, the award-winning Silver Plate Restaurant allows students to showcase their talent as we host tasting menus, lunch, and evening meals as well as our sought-after wine and dine evenings to the public.
The Silver Plate has superb links with a range of top industry chefs, including Rupert Rowley (former Head Chef of Michelin starred restaurant Fischer’s at Baslow) and Tom Lawson of double AA Rosette restaurant, Rafters. These chefs regularly provide our students with guest lectures and support them to provide our customers with the highest quality food and service.
It's not just our teaching staff who are outstanding in their field! In 2019, The Sheffield College bakery students scooped a haul of awards in a national industry competition, winning nine gold, three silver, and four bronze awards in the annual Alliance for Bakery Students and Trainees (ABST) competitions.
In February 2020, three of our MSK Academy students competed in the Zest Quest Asia competition, winning in two categories (best menu wine pairing and best use of a rice cooker). The students won a once-in-a-lifetime experience to cook at an event hosted by the Ambassador of Japan, working alongside the Ambassador's personal chef.
In October 2020, our Level 3 MSK Academy student, Ben Addy, won the 2020 Student Watercress Challenge; creating a wonderful dish showcasing watercress as the main ingredient.
Although we have started this year in lockdown, this has not deterred our students from taking part in competitions. Most recently, our Level 3 MSK Academy student, Oliver Herrington, won first place in the 2021 Zest Quest Asia competition, with his stunning Japanese-inspired dish. Winning an amazing cooking experience with renowned chef, Cyrus Todiwala, as well as cooking his dish for the executives of Tilda Rice later in the year.
We also have a Level 3 BTEC Hospitality and Events Management student in the final of the prestigious Nestle Torque d'Or front of house competition. The finals take place at the end of June and wish we Jess the best of luck for the next round.
The Silver Plate Customer
Sample our fabulous gourmet tasting menu for just £27.50 per person, or for an additional £10 per head you can accompany your meal with a flight of specially selected wine to complement and enhance each course (100ml measures of red/white wine and a 50ml measure of dessert wine).

For just £27.50 per head you can experience a gourmet set menu inspired by Master Chefs from around the world; including amuse bouche, four specially created courses and petit fours.
Recent gourmet evenings have included bespoke menus by guest chefs such as Dan Ashmore, Ross Sneddon and Rupert Rowley, who headed up the launch of our new MSK Academy.

Our Christmas menu is priced at £25 per person for three courses with tea, coffee and mince pies served at the end of the meal.

Please note that on-site car parking spaces for lunchtime service are limited to Blue Badge holders; however there is both on-street parking and various pay and display parking available within walking distance of the college (you can find more details here).
For dinner service guests are welcome to use the college's on-site car park from 5.30pm onward.
