Run by our fantastic Catering and Hospitality students under the supervision of our expert staff (two of whom are Master Chefs of Great Britain), the department holds a much coveted Hospitality Guild gold accreditation, with Patisserie and Food & Beverage Service also being recognised as Centres for Excellence. In addition, The Silver Plate Restaurant has been awarded the prestigious AA College Rosette Highly Commended award – one of only 20 colleges nationally to hold such an accolade. Most recently, the restaurant has received the AA Covid Confident accreditation for our Covid safety measures and procedures.

Serving exquisite, varied, and locally sourced food throughout the week, the award-winning Silver Plate Restaurant allows students to showcase their talent as we host tasting menus, lunch, and evening meals as well as our sought-after wine and dine evenings to the public.

Top Chefs

The Silver Plate has superb links with a range of top industry chefs, including Rupert Rowley (former Head Chef of Michelin starred restaurant Fischer’s at Baslow) and Tom Lawson of double AA Rosette restaurant, Rafters. These chefs regularly provide our students with guest lectures and support them to provide our customers with the highest quality food and service.

Skilled Students

It's not just our teaching staff who are outstanding in their field! In 2019, Sheffield College baking students scooped a haul of awards in a national industry competition, winning nine gold, three silver, and four bronze awards in the annual Alliance for Bakery Students and Trainees (ABST) competitions.

In February this year, three of our MSK Academy students competed in the Zest Quest Asia competition, winning in two categories (best menu wine pairing and best use of a rice cooker). The student team won a once-in-a-lifetime experience to cook at an event hosted by the Ambassador of Japan, working alongside the Ambassador's personal chef. 

This term our Level 2 and Level 3 chefs have created some fabulous dishes for the 2020 Student Watercress Challenge. Check out their creations on our Instagram page and watch this space for the results!

Wine and Dine Evenings

Sample our fabulous gourmet tasting menu for just £25 per person, or for an additional £10 per head you can accompany your meal with a flight of specially selected wine to complement and enhance each course (100ml measures of red/white wine and a 50ml measure of dessert wine).

Please let us know at the time of booking if you would like to add the wine flight to your meal.

Lunch Service

Our lunch menus are based on seasonal, fresh produce and change regularly, so you're always in store for something delicious and new.

Served Tuesday - Friday, you can enjoy a table d'hote lunch menu:

  • Two courses: £11 per person
  • Three courses: £13 per person

Dinner Service

Gourmet Evenings

For just £25 per head you can experience a gourmet set menu inspired by Master Chefs from around the world; including canapes, four specially created courses and petit fours.

Recent gourmet evenings have included bespoke menus by guest chefs such as Dan Ashmore, Ross Sneddon and Rupert Rowley, who headed up the launch of our new MSK Academy.

The Silver Plate Christmas Bakery & Patisserie

Unfortunately, due to Coronavirus restrictions, The Silver Plate will be closed until further notice. However, in order to spread a little festive cheer we are opening our Christmas Bakery & Patisserie as a takeaway service.

We wouldn’t want you to miss out on some of the finest food in Sheffield, so please book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Please note:

  • A deposit of £5 per person is required for bookings of 10 people or more
  • Deposits are non-refundable and we reserve the right to charge in full for any guest who does not arrive.

If you have any type of food allergy or a special dietary requirements, please inform staff at the time of booking.

The Silver Plate is open Tuesday - Friday during term time (please click here for term dates).

Lunch service

Sittings at 12pm, 12.10pm, 12.20pm and 12.30pm

Dinner service

Sittings at 6pm, 6.10pm, 6.20pm, 6.30pm

Parking

Please note that on-site car parking spaces for lunchtime service are limited to Blue Badge holders; however there is both on-street parking and various pay and display parking available within walking distance of the college (you can find more details here).

For dinner service guests are welcome to use the college's on-site car park from 5.30pm onward.
