About this Course

This course will give you an opportunity to learn about food preparation and to develop your employability skills.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements needed to join, but those in education will be expected to complete their current learning programme.


You will be asked to complete an assessment of your Maths and English skills at interview, to help decide which level of study is right for you

Assessment

Your practical work will be assessed in the kitchens through observation of practical tasks and written questions. The assignments are spread out evenly over the academic year.

Where does this Lead

Once you have finished this course you could progress to the Level 1 Diploma in Catering & Hospitality.

Future Opportunities

Career opportunities include:

  • Working in the kitchen of a bar/restaurant
  • Working front of house as a server, barista or bar staff in a variety of pubs, clubs, restaurants and hotels

An ideal student for this course is one who is motivated with a desire to learn and has an interest in the catering industry as well as cookery. You must be flexible and self-motivated and happy to work in a disciplined environment. You will need to be well organised.

Extra Costs

You are required to purchase some specialist equipment before the start of the course. This includes kitchen uniforms and a basic set of professional kitchen knives. The approximate cost of which is £100.
