About this Course

This is a practical qualification that will equip you with the knowledge and skills to work within the Beauty industry servicing nails. The course is delivered over one evening per week. It is recommended that you obtain and attend a work placement with a local Beauty salon alongside your studies.

Key Units

As part of the Level 2 Award in Provide Manicure services and LED Gel polish techniques, you will study the following core and specialist units:


  • Safe and effective methods of working when providing manicure services
  • Consult, plan and prepare for the service with clients
  • Manicure services and techniques
  • Understand organisational and legal requirements
  • Contra-indications that affect or restrict manicure services
  • Anatomy and physiology that relates to manicure services
  • Aftercare advice for clients
  • Understand LED gel nail polish treatments

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have GCSE grade 3 or above in English Language OR Level 1 equivalent in Literacy.

ESOL learners should have achieved Level 1 in all 4 elements – Speaking, listening, reading and writing.  You will be asked to produce the evidence of the appropriate qualification.

The ideal candidate will be a good communicator and listener with excellent social skills, demonstrate a degree of artistic skills and flair, and be highly dexterous.

You will be expected to attend all sessions in full and participate in some self-directed learning on a weekly basis.

Assessment

This will comprise of:


  • Practical Assessment
  • Exams
  • Assignment
Internal online exams will be taken periodically throughout the course for the mandatory units.

Practical skills will be assessed after training and practice, competence of practical skills will be demonstrated by graded summative assessments. You will be required to work on real clients.

Extra Costs

You will need to purchase a professional uniform and kit. Order forms will be supplied on your first day.


The uniform must be worn at all times when in salon and in addition to this you must wear full black shoes.
