About this Course

The course is aimed primarily at technician engineers who are currently employed or seeking employment in the mechanical manufacturing or engineering industries. Students will cover core modules in science for engineering and project/design implementation, as well as specialist units in power electronics and electrical principals.

  • Project, Design Implementation and Evaluation (20 credits)

  • Application of Power Electronics (15 credits)
  • Combinational and Sequential Logic (15 credits)
  • Instrumentation and Control Principles (15 credits)
  • Electrical & Electronic Principles (15 credits) 
  • Programmable Logic Controllers [PLC] (15 credits)

Entry Requirements

  • BTEC National Certificate in a relevant subject OR
  • A Level in Maths or Science
All applicants are required to attend an interview.

Mature applicants with equivalent qualifications or experience gained at work may be admitted at the discretion of the course team. 

All applicants who are non-native English speakers or who have not studied the final two years of school in English must have an IELTS score of 5.5 or above, with a minimum of 5.0 for individual sections.

Assessment

A variety of assessment methods are used including:

  • Research
  • Laboratory investigations
  • Controlled assessments

Where does this Lead

On successful completion of the course, students can progress to the HND in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or to find employment / progress within the sector.
