About this Course

This course is aimed at young people who have a keen interest in fitness exercise and training and would like to pursue a career in fitness industry. This course will suit you if you wish to gain knowledge, understanding and the skills for working in the fitness industry as a personal trainer.

Key Units

The course covers all the different aspects for working in the fitness industry and some of the following modules.

  • Unit 1: How to Support Clients who Take Part in Fitness
  • Unit 2: Health, Safety and Welfare in a Fitness Environment
  • Unit 3: Principles of Exercise, Fitness and Health
  • Unit 4: Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise and Health
  • Unit 5: Programming Personal Training with Clients
  • Unit 6: Delivering Personal Training Sessions
  • Unit 7: Applying the Principles of Nutrition for Exercise and Health 

Entry Requirements

Minimum of 4 GCSEs grades A* - C / grade 4 or above (or acceptable alternatives), including English Language.


You must also have successfully completed the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing.

Assessment

The course is assessed through a variety of different methods including course work and practical assessments in resistance training, aerobic training and group fitness sessions. 

Where does this Lead

After successfully completing your course you will be able to apply for employment in the fitness industry. There are also further studying opportunities with to gain Level 4 qualifications in Fitness.

The Sheffield College's Hillsborough Campus is an outstanding campus with high quality facilities and equipment. Our excellent sports areas consist of a fully equipped fitness suite with a wide range of resistance machines, aerobic equipment, free weights and equipment for functional training such as TRX, Kettle bells etc. We also have a 4 court sports hall and 3G outdoor pitches.


You will be taught by very experienced staff who have years of work experience in the sport and fitness industry, have excellent links to employers and are dedicated to supporting students on their path to gaining further study and qualifications in fitness.   

Extra Costs

If successful you will need to make sure you have sports clothing and trainers appropriate for taking part in fitness. You will be required to purchase and wear your very own fitness uniform T-shirt for all your practical assessment lessons and also when attending any trips to meet potential employers.


Students in financial hardship may be eligible to apply to the Learner Support Fund for assistance with course related expenses.
