The focus here is on healthy living, inheritance and reproduction. You will learn about how diet, exercise and the use of drugs affect human health; the causes of diseases and what defences humans have against them. You will explore how hormones affect processes within the human body. You will also study the role of genes in the reproduction process and the difference between sexual and asexual reproduction. Looking at the theory of evolution, you will discover what determines where particular species live.
Chemistry
Here you will focus on how rocks provide building materials; how metals are used and what we use crude oil and plants for. You will also learn about the environmental effects of using fuels and the changes in the Earth and its atmosphere.
Physics
In physics you focus on energy and electricity. You will explore how energy is transferred by heating, what affects the rate of transfer of energy by heating and what is meant by the efficient use of energy. You will learn about how we can insulate our homes, how we use electricity in the home and how we generate the electricity we need. You will explore the uses and hazards of the waves that form the electromagnetic spectrum and the uses of and dangers of emissions from radioactive substances.
