About this Course

Are a lack of qualifications holding you back from progressing at work or in education? Our range of English qualifications will provide you with the essential skills and knowledge that will become the foundation of all your future successes.

Key Units

Please note - applicants will be invited to an assessment by our English Tutors, following this they will be allocated to one of the following qualifications:

Functional Skills English
Functional Skills English will help you to feel more confident in using the English language for every day activities. You will develop your speaking, reading and writing skills through a variety of tasks.

GCSE English Language
A GCSE in English Language should ensure that students can read fluently and write effectively. They should be able to demonstrate a confident control of Standard English and they should be able to write grammatically correct sentences, deploy figurative language and analyse texts.

Entry Requirements

Applicants will be invited to an initial assessment, following this our dedicated English tutors will allocate the applicant to either the Functional Skills or GCSE qualification.

Assessment

The Assessment method for both qualifications is formal examination.

Where does this Lead

Students who successfully complete our Functional Skills English qualification may wish to progress on to a GCSE in English Language.

Successful completion of our English Language GCSE could lead to further study of English Language or English Literature at Level 3 e.g. A Levels or an Access to HE Diploma.

Future Opportunities

Obtaining a passing grade (C/4 or above) in English Language could open routes into employment, where a minimum GCSE grade is required.
