About this Course

This course is aimed at people who want to pursue a career as a Teaching Assistant, working in a school or other educational establishment. You will study both child and professional development whilst in college and on placement for a minimum of two days per week.

This qualification will help you to:

  • Gain the knowledge needed to work directly with children and young people 
  • Understand child and young person development 
  • Learn about the importance of safeguarding and child welfare 
  • Develop essential knowledge and understanding for working in a school environment

Entry Requirements

In line with other qualifications in the Childcare sector, it will be necessary that learners undertaking a Level 3 study programme will already have a GCSE grade C/4 in Maths AND English before enrolling on the course.


Experience of working with children in a voluntary or paid capacity will be an advantage. 

Assessment

The course is interanlly assessed using a range of methods such as:
  • Direct observation in the workplace and incollege
  • A portfolio of evidence
  • Written assignments/tasks

Where does this Lead

Students who successfully complete this course may wish to undertake further study at a higher level (e.g. Foundation Degree or Bachelor's Degree), or alternatively, they can apply for their HLTA or progress into employment.

Will the course suit me?

This course is aimed at mature students (aged 19 and over) who want to work in a school/educational setting and may wish to progress to a senior role. 

Extra Costs

You will need to be able to secure your required Enhanced DBS check and you will be expected to pay the full cost of this, which is currently £48.
