The biggest thing that all drama, musical theatre, acting and music students have in common is the desire to perform, rehearse and perform some more! Our students are always performing in our fully equipped theatre and at venues across Sheffield, using our TV and drama studios, recording studios and rehearsal spaces to bring their visions to life.
What goes on behind-the-scenes is crucial to a good performance. If you prefer to be backstage or behind the camera, we have lots of exciting opportunities for you to be working in our TV studio, editing suites and on our lighting rigs to direct performances or produce props for the show.

There’s a pretty big misconception about getting a degree level qualification; you have to go to university to get one. Quite simply, that’s not true!
At UC Sheffield, you can join an increasing number of students who are choosing to study university level qualifications in a wide range of career driven courses with us.
Our qualifications include:
fivebyseven is The Sheffield College’s multi-genre record label, providing all music performance and production students with opportunities for real working experience.
The label is student-led and runs in exactly the same way as any other record label does. fivebyseven provides all our students with exposure to a huge variety of careers in the industry including live performances, recording and releasing music, marketing and managing budgets, and more.
With 74% of the music industry self-employed, these experiences are invaluable.
So far, the label has hosted gigs at Sheffield’s legendary The Leadmill, The Green Room, and charity gigs at Hillsborough Campus. The first music to be released on the label is coming very soon!
Similarly to fivebyseven, The Sheffield College Theatre provides students with real work experience in an industry where experience is hard to come by.
Our theatre stages performances throughout the year. All aspects of performances are student-led and managed including marketing, stage/prop design, sound and lighting. Students also manage the budget for performances. Having control over the budget provides students with a great opportunity to learn about the feasibility of putting on performances, the cost involved and how they can make a profit – all important factors in performance-related careers.
Our students have fantastic opportunities to work and learn alongside some of the best employers in the region, including:
Our students study at our Hillsborough Campus, in our theatre and rehearsal rooms, prop-making workshop, music studios and music technology suites.
Sheffield is known for its creativity, especially when it comes to music and performing arts.
We’ve produced some of the finest artists, bands and performers, and have iconic venues like The Leadmill, The Crucible and the Lyceum on our doorstep so it would be daft for us not to utilise them!
Our students regularly perform to audiences throughout Sheffield city centre and gain experience through industry placements.
Most recently, one of our music students has had a song featured on the Disney+ remake of The Full Monty, whilst two performing arts students had acting roles in it!
Many people in this industry are self-employed, giving you loads of freedom to be creative and work in the roles that inspire you most, such as
After finishing their studies with us, many students go on to university or into employment.
