Work-Wise Engineering Employer Skills Academy

Work-Wise Engineering Employer Skills Academy

The Work-Wise Engineering Employer Skills Academy provides students with the opportunity to develop the technical knowledge, industry awareness and professional skills needed for successful careers in engineering and manufacturing. Based at our Advanced Technology Centre, the academy connects students with employers and industry specialists, helping them gain valuable insight into the wide range of opportunities available within the STEM sector.

Through employer-led activities, practical learning experiences and engagement with industry professionals, students develop the confidence, skills and workplace understanding needed to progress into apprenticeships, employment or further study.

About Work-Wise Engineering Employer Skills Academy

The Work-Wise Engineering Employer Skills Academy has been designed to support Level 2 Engineering students by combining classroom learning with meaningful employer engagement. Developed in partnership with the Work-Wise Foundation and its network of industry supporters, the academy helps students gain a deeper understanding of engineering careers and the skills required to succeed within the sector.

Throughout their studies, students take part in employer-led workshops, masterclasses and employability sessions that provide valuable insight into modern engineering and manufacturing environments. These activities help learners develop technical expertise while building essential workplace skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving and professional confidence.

Working closely with employers from across the Sheffield City Region, students have the opportunity to learn from industry experts, explore different career pathways and gain a greater understanding of the technologies, processes and innovations shaping the future of engineering. The academy helps students prepare for their next steps while developing the knowledge and behaviours valued by employers.

Students will develop knowledge and skills in areas including:

  • Engineering communications

  • Mechanical and manufacturing principles

  • Electrical and electronic principles

  • Project planning and management

  • Engineering processes and techniques

  • Problem-solving and innovation

The Sheffield College

The Work-wise Foundation are delighted to be partnering with Sheffield College on our new Employer Skills Academy and we are looking forward to supporting and working with our next generation of industry talent. Work-wise works on behalf of local employers to tackle the current shortage of young people entering the industry and filling skills gaps and this partnership with the College is a perfect match. Involving a range of local sector employers sharing their real-life skills, knowledge and experience with students, who in turn will feed the pipeline of young talent entering the industry.
