Bloom: Preparation for Adulthood

We are excited to offer our students the very best experiences bespoke to their individual needs.

Welcome to Bloom: Preparation for Adulthood at The Sheffield College

Bloom is our specialist offer for students with learning difficulties and disabilities who flourish through personalised support, high expectations and a nurturing environment.

At Bloom, we have created an inspiring and ambitious curriculum for young people with a wide range of strengths, aspirations and support needs. Our dedicated, experienced team works closely with each young person and their circle of support to design a personalised curriculum that builds on their abilities, supports their wellbeing, and enables them to lead rich, meaningful and self-directed adult lives.

We focus on creating the very best opportunities for young people to grow in confidence, independence and employability, and to develop the skills they need to be safe, healthy and active contributors within their communities.

Bloom has been co-developed with young people, parents and carers, schools, health professionals and a wide network of partners. This ensures we deliver a provision that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of young people across Sheffield and beyond. Most learners accessing Bloom will have High Needs Funding and an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Information about EHCPs in Sheffield can be found here.

Every Bloom student is supported by our Inclusion and Learning Support Team, who:

  • lead the EHCP consultation and transition process
  • attend school annual reviews
  • co-design support plans with families and professionals
  • coordinate specialist input (e.g., NHS therapies)
  • ensure staff training is completed prior to transition

Pastoral support is outstanding and includes personal tutors, Student Advocates and a dedicated Head of Student Experience, ensuring every young person feels known, valued and supported to thrive.
