Enrolment at The Sheffield College 2024/2025: FAQs

These frequently asked questions are for applicants who have received an offer to study at The Sheffield College in September 2024.

We look forward to welcoming you and helping you go further in your career. Before you can start your study programme, you need to enrol.

Keep reading to find out how the enrolment process works, and what you need to do!

1. What is enrolment?

Once you have been made an offer to study with us, after applying for a study programme, you will need to enrol.

Enrolment is where you confirm and finalise your place as a student at the college. The process takes place between July and September 2024 – depending on the study programme that you have applied for.

2. What does the enrolment process involve?

The enrolment process involves checking that you’ve signed up to the study programme you want and that you’ve got the grades you need. We’ll also complete some other administrative checks to help you get ready for your first day at college. The enrolment process comprises four steps:

  1. Pre-enrolment
  2. Enrolment confirmation
  3. Grades check and induction information
  4. Support check

3. What happens if I don’t get the grades I need for my chosen course?

Don't worry! Please attend your enrolment session as planned and we will discuss an alternative start point with you or offer information, advice and guidance to help you consider different options.

4. What should applicants do first?

New students – with an offer

Once you have been made an offer of study, you will be directed to complete pre-enrolment online. Your pre-enrolment will be done through the Prospect portal.

If you require support with completing pre-enrolment on Prospect, staff at The Sheffield College can help you with this. Please contact admissions@sheffcol.ac.uk for more information.

New students who have been offered a place to study with us will also be given a date and time to come in and finish their enrolment; this will be the final step of the enrolment process and is where our staff will check your grades, provide you with your induction information and print your student ID card!

Please be sure to attend at your allotted time as this helps us to provide a smooth service. If you are unable to attend for any reason, please contact the Admissions Team via admissions@sheffcol.ac.uk.

Returning/progressing students

If you have studied with us before but are returning this year to study a different subject, you will still need to complete your pre-enrolment online via the Prospect portal.

Once your tutor has confirmed your enrolment (late August), you can log back into the Prospect portal to complete your digital signature

If you are unable to complete this online, please come into City or Hillsborough campus on August 22nd between 9am and 5pm.

5. What happens after pre-enrolment is completed?

Once you have completed your pre-enrolment online, a member of our Admissions Team will be in touch to book you in for an enrolment appointment.

If you have not been contacted or are unable to make the date given, please contact our Admissions Team via admissions@sheffcol.ac.uk.

The dates and times vary according to the study programme you have chosen.

For more details, please visit our enrolment page. Please note that enrolments for study programmes at Olive Grove Campus on Olive Grove Road will take place at City Campus on Granville Road.

6. What checks take place during the on-campus enrolment?

Once you have confirmed your enrolment, a member of staff will check your grades (if this hasn't already been completed online) and provide you with information about your induction at The Sheffield College.

If you are studying an access to higher education diploma, university-level course, or an English, maths and digital skills programme, you will be allocated an additional appointment for this process.

Your final step of the enrolment process will be with a member of our support team. They can provide information and guidance about our financial support options, and collect evidence to enable this support to be put in place.

Once this is complete, you will be given your student ID card and lanyard. Timetables will be issued online before the start of term.

If you need assistance with funding or childcare, or have any questions about how we can support you during your time at The Sheffield College, staff will be on hand at your enrolment appointment to help answer any queries that you may have.

7. What do I need to bring to enrolment?

Please bring:

  • proof of ID
  • proof of results
  • student support evidence (e.g. proof of any benefits you receive or details of childcare arrangements)
  • method of payment (where appropriate)

8. Where can I get more information about enrolment?

If you still have questions about enrolment at The Sheffield College, please contact our Admissions Team as soon as possible.

9. I have not decided on my next steps – is it too late to apply?

It’s not too late to apply! We still have places on our programmes starting in September 2024. For more information, please visit our courses page where you can search by careers, subject area, interest, or level of study.

You can also download our guides for school leavers, Apprenticeships, university level and professional courses, access to university programmes and A Levels.
