Life on Campus as a SheffCol Student
Updated: 22.04.26
If you’ve applied to become a SheffCol student this September, there are all sorts of wonderful things awaiting you on campus. From fantastic facilities to exciting enrichment opportunities and everything in between, our campuses are home to some incredible spaces and exciting experiences around every corner. Have a read to find out just what’s in store for you.
Exciting events
Every year brings new opportunities for our students to enjoy different events. Each year we run a Freshers’ Fair, Open Days with taster sessions, and Student Celebration Award events. Throughout the year we also have charity fundraisers, event celebrations and workshops for students to enjoy and get involved in.
Industry-standard facilities
Whichever of our campuses you’ll be studying at, you can be sure you’ll get to use some of the best facilities available for your chosen sector. From industry-standard kitchens in our catering department to fully kitted out studios in our music department, whatever your career goals, your SheffCol campus will see you on the right track to gaining all the skills you need to succeed.
Cafes and canteens
Break times are important moments to recharge, and that’s why we make sure you have plenty of options. Grab a hot drink at our Costa Coffee outlets, or refuel with something to eat at one of our refectories. If you’re at City Campus, you can also get meals made by our very own catering students at Grab and Go.
Independence
College life is very different from school, and you’ll notice this in your timetable, which allows you time to absorb what you’ve learned and study independently too. Having responsibility for your own learning will give you the skills to manage your time and prioritise your workload, essentials for when you’re heading into the working world.
Work and volunteering opportunities
Our Careers Team is always on hand to discuss work and volunteering opportunities with you! Whether you’re after a job for when you finish your studies, you’re looking for a placement to support your qualification, or you’d like to volunteer to improve your future opportunities, we’ve got you covered.
Sports clubs, societies, and student campaigns
We have so many extracurricular activities for our students to get involved in! If you’re into sports, we have sports halls, gyms, and teams at your disposal. There are a number of societies always ready to welcome new members. Plus, when you become a sheffcol student, you’re automatically part of our Students’ Union, giving you opportunities to have a voice, get involved in campaigns, and make a real difference here.
Support services
If there’s ever anything you need, you can be sure there’s a support team to help here at The Sheffield College. From financial support to childcare, we have specialist teams on hand to enable you to focus fully on your studies. Visit your campus’s Student Central to speak to someone about any of your support needs.
Impactful people
More than anything, here at The Sheffield College, we are a wonderful community of friends, tutors, and staff. Studying here will give you countless opportunities to meet new people, gain contacts in your chosen field, and make friends from Sheffield and beyond.
College life is about more than just your qualification. It’s about discovering yourself, striving for your potential, having new experiences, building relationships, and working towards your future.
