Our Expectations of You

Our Student Charter sets out our commitment to you whilst you are studying at The Sheffield College and highlights what is expected from you as a student in return. The charter has been produced in partnership with the Students’ Union and will be reviewed jointly.

Our commitment

  • Provide a challenging, stimulating environment with teaching provided by knowledgeable and suitably qualified teaching staff
  • Experience teaching and learning that is well-planned, personalised, stretches and challenges, uses different methods to accommodate different learning styles and is designed to help you think for yourself
  • Provide on-going guidance, learning support and feedback about progress while studying
  • Give you clear deadlines for submitting work
  • Provide information about your studies, including arrangements for assessment, regulations and policies
  • Ensure you are made aware of any changes to your studies in a timely fashion
  • Provide relevant, accessible, supportive opportunities for all students
  • We will listen to you, be open to constructive student feedback, encourage and support student participation in shaping the quality of your experience
  • Provide impartial advice and support on health and welfare, finance, careers, and other issues that may affect you during your time at The Sheffield College
  • Provide equal access to services and facilities in an environment free from discrimination, bullying or harassment and which supports diversity
  • Provide high-quality, fit for purpose, accommodation and resources

Your commitment

  • Behave in a way which respects the needs and aspirations of others to learn
  • Take responsibility for managing your own learning by being an active participant and positively engaging in your studies, attending classes (both online and in person), attending meetings with subject and pastoral support, and ensuring you spend sufficient regular time in self-study
  • Complete all assignments to the best of your ability and hand them in on time
  • Make use of any support available, particularly if recommended by your Personal Tutor
  • Help to make the college a safe and pleasant environment for everyone and make sure you wear your student ID at all times whilst on campus
  • Respect and include other people regardless of differences in culture, ability, race, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation or social class
  • Take care of the college accommodation and resources, furnishings, equipment and respect other people’s property
