Inclusion and Learning Support for SEND

At The Sheffield College, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every learner brings strengths, potential and unique perspectives, and it is our responsibility to remove barriers so that all students can thrive.

Our Inclusive Ethos at The Sheffield College

Our Inclusive Ethos at The Sheffield College

We proudly embed the social model of disability, recognising that it is our environments, systems and practices, not a young person’s needs, that create inequality.

Through this lens, we design teaching, support and curriculum experiences that enable learners with SEND to grow in confidence, independence and aspiration.

Our work is guided by our FREDIE+ values – Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, Engagement and Innovation. These values shape our culture, our relationships and our daily practice. They ensure that we champion individuality, celebrate diversity and create a college where every learner feels they belong, are supported, and can progress into rich, fulfilling adult lives.

At Sheffield, inclusion isn’t an add-on. It’s who we are, and it’s how we make a difference.

The college offers a wide range of assistance to students with a variety of SEND and inclusion needs. We believe that all students should have an equal chance of success and offer specialist learning support, equipment and resources.

Students with an EHC Plan

We can support students with an Education, Health and Care Plan every step of the way, from finding out more about our offer to planning a robust transition to college with you and your circle of support. We can support you through the application process and make sure that progression from school is well planned.

This could include:

  • Coming to your annual reviews in year 10 or 11 at school
  • arranging access to information, advice and guidance about the courses we offer at The Sheffield College
  • arranging visits and experiences of The Sheffield College environment (e.g. tours or tasters)
  • working alongside students and their circles of support to make sure they get the right support
  • liaising with professionals in education, health and care to meet student support needs
