Here's why Mbaroro was nominated by his tutor:

Mbaroro is an exceptional young person who has demonstrated remarkable dedication and progress throughout the year. On his Entry 3 level ESOL course, first at Fir Vale and then at Hillsborough, he has shown a strong commitment to improving his Maths and English.

What has made him really stand out amongst his peers is his outstanding ability to listen; in a world that often favours those who are keen to make themselves heard, his consistent effort to listen, understand, and act on feedback, coupled with his willingness to assist his classmates, is what has really made the difference to both his own progress and our class community. His positive attitude and kindness, evident in his ever-present smile and noted by all of his teachers, have made him a highly valued member of our class community and a genuinely nice person to be around.

Beyond the classroom, his commitment and perseverance are equally evident in his pursuit of excellence in football. He has diligently applied coaching advice, resulting in significant improvement in his skills and performance. This dedication has led to a potential opportunity to join the Kyle Walker Academy at the Sheffield College, which is a real testament to his hard work and determination to act on feedback to progress and achieve.

Mbaroro’s journey is one of overcoming challenges, including adapting to a new social environment and, at times, feelings of loneliness. He has consistently demonstrated resilience and a positive spirit. He is a role model for his peers, exemplifying the college's values of dedication, perseverance, and positive contribution. I wholeheartedly recommend him for this award and know that this would make a big difference to him continuing to grow in confidence and feeling accepted in his new home.
