About this Course

This Level 3 adult course encapsulates the latest best practices and educational methodologies for supporting children and young people in both primary and secondary education settings. This course will provide you with the understanding and knowledge needed to work with children and young people effectively, including information on how educational organisations operate and the teamwork required to deliver high quality education.

This Level 3 adult course encapsulates the latest best practices and educational methodologies for supporting children and young people in both primary and secondary education settings. This course will provide you with the understanding and knowledge needed to work with children and young people effectively, including information on how educational organisations operate and the teamwork required to deliver high quality education.


The course consists of one day a week in college and two days a week in placement. You will be responsible for securing your own placement in any year group from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 5 (5-19 years). The placement should last for the duration of the course.

Entry Requirements

In line with other qualifications in the Childcare sector, it is desirable that learners undertaking a Level 3 study programme will already have a GCSE grade C/4 in Maths AND English or be willing to work towards them.

Assessment

Two mandatory placement observations. 

A combination of written assignments, formal presentations, professional discussions and tasks across 16 units.

Where does this Lead

Students who successfully complete this course may wish to undertake further study at a higher level (e.g. Foundation Degree or Bachelor's Degree), apply for their HLTA or progress into employment.

Will the course suit me?
This course is aimed at mature students (aged 19 and over) who want to work in a school/educational setting.

Delivery mode & attendance
You will be required to attend college one day per week and a relevant placement for at least 2 days per week.

The placement is a compulsory part of the assessment and therefore it is a condition of your offer to study the course that you obtain a suitable placement for a minimum of two days per week. Students should have at least 6 months recent experience volunteering or working in a British school.

Extra Costs

An Enhanced DBS is a requirement to work in the Education Sector (this can be accessed through college at a cost of £57.90).  All participants will need this Enhanced DBS to gain a viable placement. 

The full cost for this course is approximately £2225. You may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan for this course.
