About this Course

Coding is what makes it possible for anyone to create computer software. Websites, apps, and social media are all made with code - it is a language that tells computers what action to perform. This qualification is designed for anyone who is looking to gain an introduction to coding. As the world is evolving digitally and the digital sector is growing, this qualification will give you an insight into the principles of coding, and how coding is used in practice for software development.

Key Units

Unit 1: Understand the principles of coding

In this unit you will gain knowledge of coding languages and the software development life cycle, you will also learn about the job roles,functions and key skills requirements of a coding professional.

Unit 2: Understand terminology used in coding

In this unit you will gain basic computer terminology in relation to coding, you will also learn about coding acronyms, terminology and the key principles of writing code.

Unit 3: Understand coding design principles

In this unit you will gain knowledge of different coding types and the advantages and disadvantages of their use, you will also understand the use of pure function.

Unit 4: Understand the processes and practice of coding

In this unit you will learn best practice in coding, methods of testing used and DevOps processes.

Unit 5: Understand the importance of communication and project management in coding

In this unit you will learn the importance of communication for those working in a coding environment, you will also learn about project management principles and Agile developments.

Entry Requirements

Although prior knowledge of coding is not required, learners must have a general confidence in using computers.

This is a part-time course for adults. Learners must be aged 19+.

All applicants need to complete an English and maths initial assessment following the pre-enrolment, unless you can provide evidence of sufficient level of English and maths required for the course.

Assessment

This qualification will be assessed fully online – you access all the learning materials and complete and submit your assessments online.

You will be supported by a personal tutor who you can contact throughout your studies. You will work through a series of tasks and activities to assist in gaining the qualification. There will be written assessments related to the content.

This qualification is delivered online. The programme is run entirely online, using a range of virtual teaching and learning strategies, including live interactive webinars. You will need access to a PC.

Students will receive a login to our learning platform where you will find the interactive learning materials and the assessments. Students will be given deadlines to complete and submit the work, and will receive detailed feedback on your work so that you can improve your skills as you progress through the qualification.

This qualification is ideal for people who like to learn independently and do not wish to come onto campus to study. The online portfolio of resources and assessment questions means that you can organise your study to be at a time/day to suit and from a location which is convenient. You will need to study for a minimum of 2-3 hrs per week and to finish the course within 10 weeks.

You might be eligible for fully funded courses depending on your circumstances.

This will be assessed during your IAG (Information Advice and Guidance) interview in the enrolment process. If you are unemployed or employed part-time or earning under £23,400 per year, and you receive means tested benefits, you are likely to be eligible.

Extra Costs

A fee of £150 is payable if you enrol on this qualification and do not complete it.
