About this Course

This course is a great if you are interested in a career in the health and social care sector. This could include caring for the elderly in a care home, working with adults or children with disabilities or helping people recover from illness or injury in a hospital or care centre.

Key Units

This qualification is an excellent starting point for young people who are interested in learning about work or further study in health and social care. It helps develop the personal skills, qualities and attitude required.

Enrichment activities can include trips, visits and talks by guest speakers such as nurses, therapists and care workers. Health and social care professionals come in to college to work with you on practical assessments and activities.

  • Health and social care needs and what people need to stay happy and healthy
  • Communication skills in health and social care, including good listening skills and how to comfort people 
  • Creative activities for children and adults
  • Healthy eating, including food preparation
  • Employability skills such as being reliable and being polite
  • Job opportunities in health and social care and how to make a good application
English and Maths
You will also be expected to study Functional Skills qualifications in English and Maths and have the opportunity to take awards in volunteering and personal and social development.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs grades A* - E / grade 2 or above (or acceptable alternatives), including English Language.

Assessment

The Level 1 CACHE Health and Social Care Award is assessed mostly by coursework. There will also be some exams.

Where does this Lead

Successful completion of this qualification, good attendance and punctuality along with tutor recommendation can lead to our Health and Social Care CACHE Level 2 Award or another Level 2 programme.  

Future Opportunities

The health and social care sector offers an extensive choice of careers.


Future career opportunities could include working as one of the following:
  • Care assistant
  • Health Care Assistant
  • Home Carer
  • Other support service roles
This can include progression via traineeships to apprenticeships or direct to apprenticeships.
