About this Course

The Access to HE Diploma in Humanities and Social Sciences is an intensive one year programme of study. It will equip you with the skills, experience and qualifications to go on to study a range of higher education courses in the humanities and social science areas that can then lead to careers in education, the community and other sectors.

Key Units

The core curriculum provides you with the underlying skills you need for study at university level. These include reading, essay writing, note taking, presentation, research skills, use of statistics and some IT skills. It also provides tutorial support which may take the form of a group session or one-to-one support. All students will be allocated a personal tutor from the beginning of the Diploma.

  • English and History
  • Psychology and Criminology
  • Contemporary Social Issues
  • Sociology
You will be timetabled to 3 days in lessons per week for the academic year. These sessions will form the core of the Diploma which will enable you to carry out approximately 20 hours of self-study per week. You are expected to attend all classroom sessions. 

Entry Requirements

19+ years old
  • GCSE English Language Grade C/4 or above
  • A willingness to undertake an intensive course
  • A commitment to outstanding attendance and achievement
Please note: for those wishing to study psychology at university, please check if they require GCSE Maths Grade C/4 or above before starting this programme. 

Please ensure that this Diploma meets the requirements of the university course you aspire to. Our staff will be happy to assist you in determining this.

    Where does this Lead

    The Diploma will provide you with credits towards a university application and progression to Level 4.
