Key Units

Public Services Level 1

This course is an introduction to the work of the Uniformed Public Services and offers you the opportunity to develop the skills and personal qualities needed for further study or employment.

Public Services Level 2
This qualification is aimed at students who have chosen to focus their learning and career development within the public services sector and have completed the level 1 programme. It is an engaging and stimulating qualification which will prepare students for successful performance in working life and further study.

Public Services Level 3
Following on from level 2 this subject is perfect anyone who wants to go into the protective services such as the emergency services and the Armed Forces, or to progress their study to university level.

4 GCSEs at grade 2 or above to include English Language

Assessment

Public Services Level 1

The BTEC course is mainly assessed by coursework. Other assessment methods include written assignments, worksheets, role plays, practical assessments, observations and workbooks.

Public Services Level 2
Assessment is designed to fit the purpose and objective of the qualification. It includes a range of assessment types and styles suited to skills and occupationally based qualifications at this level.? There will be on-going assessments throughout the year, as each unit covered will have between 2 to 4 assignments. The methods of assessment will vary to make sure that all learners experience a range of work-related employability skills. These will cover different methods, such as, reports, group or individual presentations, one to ones, practical assessments and group activities.

Extra Costs

A uniformed polo shirt is required for students and costs approximately £25; but a cheaper version can be used. There may be costs for several visits (local, national and international) which are payable in advance of the trip. Students may be entitled to help with these costs and other expenses from the college’s Student Support Fund.
