About this Course

This course is perfect for anyone interested in business, from those considering a new career to current sole traders and small business owners (like taxi drivers or hairdressers). It's also ideal if you simply want to master the fundamental processes and principles of running a business.

What you can study

Taking the form of a 10-week, 1-day-a-week face-to-face programme, this course will introduce the core skills to prepare you for the world of work. You’ll learn basic single entry bookkeeping skills and understand the role of the bookkeeper and financial transactions, as well as how to set up accounts and do reporting.

As we cover basic finance and administrative duties, you will also be exposed to accounting software packages and other basic accounting techniques or principles to give you a broader understanding of the business environment and how to better prepare for entering the world of business.

Entry Requirements

To succeed in this course, you should possess a working knowledge of Maths and English, ideally at the GCSE (Level 2) standard or equivalent.


All applicants without formal Level 2 qualifications will need to pass relevant assessments to confirm their skill level.

This is the natural progression for students who want to deepen their accounting knowledge. It covers more advanced bookkeeping, costing, and introductory accounting software skills.

Fees and funding
The course fees for this course are £1080.

Full funding is available for residents of South Yorkshire and anyone unemployed and in receipt of benefit. Or, working and earning below the earning threshold (currently £24,570).

Co-funding is available for anyone in South Yorkshire who doesn't meet the above critera, making the cost £450

Extra Costs

AAT Membership fees of £84 and books cost of around £30.
