Unit 1: Introduction to Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)

Unit 2: Understand Equality and Diversity in the Context of SEND
- Understand the concept of equality and diversity
- Understand legislation and guidance which supports individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
- Understand the importance of safeguarding an individual with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
- Understand the benefits of a diverse and inclusive society for an individual with SEND

Unit 3: Principles of Promoting Person Centred Approach for Individuals with SEND
- Understand person centred approaches
- Understand the importance of encouraging active participation
- Understand the importance of an individual’s well-being

Unit 4: Understanding SEND and Learning
- Understand the importance of inclusive learning
- Understand the use of support programmes for individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
- Understand the role of reasonable adjustments
- Understand Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) 

Unit 5: Living with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
- Understand the concept of neurodiversity
- Understand the concept of the self
- Understand the impact of societal and cultural influences on individuals with conditions categorised as SEND
- Understand sources of support for individuals with SEND and the families
- Understand the impact stigma has on individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Entry Requirements

There are no specific certificates required to enrol on this qualfication. Acceptance onto the certificates is based on a phone or online interview with the Tutor.

Assessment

You will complete an online workbook, supported by the Tutor as required.

Where does this Lead

Students who complete this qualification can progress to:
  • Other specialist level 2 certificates for the health, social care and education sectors
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Apprenticeship in Early Years / Health and Social Care

These level 2 courses are free if you are a resident of South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (comprising of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield), as these qualifications can be fully-funded at no cost to you!
