Entry Requirements

  • Level 3 or above in English and maths.
  • You will also need to gain a suitable employer.

Assessment

Throughout the course you will be assessed in the workplace to demonstrate the skills you are learning. The theory side of the course is assessed by online assessments in college. These are followed up by assessments on paying clients in the college salon.

Where does this Lead

On completion of the apprenticeship you will be classed as a junior stylist working under supervision. You can progress onto a Level 3 Hairdressing or Level 2 Barbering qualification to further develop your skills.

Future Opportunities

The majority of apprentices continue in paid employment in a salon once they complete their qualification. Previous apprentices have gained full time employment in salons such as Toni & Guy, Loaf, and Capelli in Sheffield.

Will this course suit me?
A hairdressing or barbering apprenticeship will suit you if you have an artistic flair. You must have good stamina as you are often on your feet all day. You will need good people skills and be able to communicate well with clients and your fellow staff members.

Extra Costs

Hairdressing apprentices will be expected to buy a uniform for the college-based practical sessions and a hairdressing kit consisting of essential equipment such as scissors, brushes, clips, practice heads etc. The estimated cost for this will be £150.
