About this Course

This course is a level 1 Introduction to Programming for adult learners. The qualification is designed for learners to understand the principles of computer programming and how programming works. You will develop programming skills to design and develop your own computer program.

Key Units

  • Know the basic principles of programming (Two-value logic system, programming languages, graphic and text based programming languages)
  • Design a simple computer programme in response to a set brief
  • Develop the programme using graphic-based programming language
  • Test programme functionality, document and review the programme

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, however it is advisable to have an interest in computers and programming and have a level of maths/English that will enable you to understand the course content.

An initial diagnostic assessment will be used to ensure learners can cope with the demands of the course.

You should have access to a computer and internet resources outside of college.

Assessment

Portfolio of evidence such as unit assignments.

Where does this Lead

Successful completion of the course can lead to Level 2 Understanding Coding and Level 3 Software Development. This will enable further progression to higher education courses or Apprenticeships.

Future Opportunities

Those wishing to progress into jobs in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) industries and in the digital skills sector. Careers may include programming, project management, digital arts and much more.

Extra Costs

Depending on individual circumstances, the cost of the course may be covered by government funding. For learners who do not qualify for funding, the fee is £300.
