About this Course

During this level three, two-year qualification, students will study units from a variety of business functions including the fundamentals of law, the business environment and research skills, alongside undertaking a 45-day Industry Placement to set them up for success in their future workplace.

Key Units

The T Level Legal Services Assistant: Crime, Criminal Justice & Social Welfare is a two-year course designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career in legal services. In the first year, students will develop a strong foundation in the operations of legal firms, covering essential topics such as finance, the business environment, legal documentation, technology, data management, and risk analysis. A key focus will be placed on understanding the fundamentals of law, including regulation, legislation, and the UK legal system, while also emphasising professionalism and the role of legal services in criminal justice and social welfare.

In the second year, students will specialise in Crime, Criminal Justice, and Social Welfare, gaining a deeper understanding of the complexities of crime within society. They will explore the causes and effects of crime, alongside the social welfare aspects of the legal system, including the roles and powers of the police, housing benefits, and debt management for individuals. This year will offer a comprehensive understanding of how the legal system addresses both criminal justice and social welfare issues, preparing students for a broad range of career opportunities within the field.

Within the second year of your course you will cover in detail:

  • Crime
  • Criminal Justice & Police Powers
  • Criminal Justice System
  • Welfare Law relating to Housing & Debt
  • Drafting and production of Legal Documentation

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at grade 5 or above including English Language and Maths

Assessment

Externally assessed exams and externally assessed project and practical assessments.

Students will engage in high quality industry placements which enable them to apply their learning in real life situations. These placements will provide learners with the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for skilled employment in the business sector.

To achieve the overall T Level programme, students will be supported by an expert team of both college and industry professionals to complete a minimum of 315 hours in placement.
