Employer Skills Academies

The College has partnered with a host of local, regional and national businesses to create our award-winning Employer Skills Academies.

An exclusive innovative teaching and learning programme, the academies aim to provide an outstanding technical and professional education for our students.

 

Employer Skills Academies

OUR ACADEMY SPONSORS

We currently have 23 active Employer Skills Academies with 19 different employers. The academies cover a variety of sectors and subject areas from construction, IT and catering to professional makeup, business and sport. Two of our Employer Skills Academies have been built to support all of our 15,000 College students.

Each Employer Skills Academy has its own designated space within the College that is branded by the employer sponsor, creating a professional business environment for our College students.

HOW DO THE ACADEMY STUDENTS BENEFIT

The academies will enable selected college students, with a proven aptitude and positive work ethic, to enhance their college studies by engaging with professional industry experts.

 

Being a member of one of our Employer Skills Academies allows students to:

  • Develop their knowledge and skills within a specific sector under the guidance of an industry expert
  • Interact with industry professionals through workshop and masterclasses
  • Enhance their skills by working on real-life projects set by the employer
  • Gain valuable experience of work through placement opportunities
  • Get an insight into the world of work through site visits and tours of employer premises

 

Students will receive exclusive opportunities to:

  • Explore all aspects of their sponsor's business
  • Take part in lectures with specialist speakers
  • Attend various trips and visits to employer premises and that of their supply chain
  • Gain valuable experience to enhance their CV through industry placements
  • Work as a team on specialist projects set by their sponsor
  • Develop their knowledge and skills through masterclasses and workshops delivered by their sponsor and their supply chain
  • Enhance their employability skills through CV workshops and mock interviews
  • Get an employer reference for them to use on their CV and in future interviews
  • Be involved in sector-specific local, regional and national events and competitions
