5 reasons a HNC is the perfect way to get you ready for a career in computing

Get practical skills, not just textbook knowledge

A HNC is a hands-on vocational qualification, which means that you will learn through practical demonstrations, workshops, collaborative projects and self-lead tasks rather than burying your head in a textbook.

Get skills that the workforce is looking for

Starting from September 2024, you can opt to study for a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) in Computing. The content and learning material for HTQs have been designed with guidance from employers, so you can be sure that you’re developing the exact skills and knowledge that companies will be looking for when it comes finding a job! Check out the links below for more info on HTQs.

Interaction with real employers

Our HNC students can take advantage of our Highlander Employer Skills Academy. Not only do students get to learn in our Highlander Academy suite (complete with the latest computing technology) but they also benefit from regular talks and workshops with Highlander (a leading IT firm in the region) so that they can get to grips with real-world projects and problems and develop the skillsets needed to fix them.

Higher-level knowledge for high-paying jobs

Studying at degree level can really help you to develop your understanding of some complex topics. This type of knowledge is especially valuable if you’re hoping to pursue a career in a highly technical field, such as cybersecurity or cloud computing.

Keep your career options open

A HNC can be the perfect starting point for a huge variety of jobs within the computing industry. Whether you want to continue studying, find a Higher Apprenticeship or jump straight into the world of work, the HNC will give you a fantastic base knowledge for loads of jobs, from network engineers to cybersecurity analyst, network architect and beyond!
