Here's why Shaden was nominated:

"Shaden has consistently demonstrated a fantastic commitment to the FREDIE+ values throughout her time at the college in the last two academic years. Her leadership, passion for inclusion, dedication to uplifting others and commitments beyond her studies is consistently inspiring.

Shaden approached the Students’ Union, with a fully formed plan to create the Muslim Girls Society - she had done all of the ground work to allow this group to run, including getting friends and other learners involved. This student‑led group provides a safe, empowering space for Muslim female students to express themselves, share experiences, and build community. The society has strengthened the visibility and voice of an underrepresented group and has become a meaningful platform for dialogue and cultural understanding.

Working collaboratively with both staff and students, Shaden led the planning of a college Eid celebration event, and without her leadership and support, the event may have not even taken place. The event was a fantastic success, allowing the college community to further embody FREDIE+ values and celebrate the diverse student and staff population, as well as fostering a sense of belonging among students.

In addition, she is a Student Rep for her class, advocating for the needs, experiences, and wellbeing of fellow learners. Through this role, she consistently demonstrates empathy, respect, and a genuine desire to ensure every student feels heard and supported.

Last academic year, Shaden was selected for the AoC Youth Social Action Ambassador Programme, representing the college at national level to drive social action among FE learners. Through this programme she helped promote youth voice, civic engagement, and positive change within further education communities, further demonstrating her commitment to making a real-world impact.

Shaden was also involved in the pilot for a mentoring scheme for young female learners in the college in collaboration with SHEAF and the Sheffield City Council’s ‘See it, Be it’. She engaged enthusiastically and proactively with the pilot, and her participation highlights her commitment to personal growth, empowerment, and developing the skills needed to continue driving inclusive practice now and in the future.

Shaden is truly the embodiment of the FREDIE+ values and is a model example of inclusive, passionate and proactive engagement, for our students, but also for the staff that she works with (including myself!)."
